To Stay Married, Embrace Change.
Embracing change is the key to staying married, so writes Ada Calhoun (The New York Times, 21st April 2017). Her excellent article cites lack of change as the most common reason for divorce.
Solution focused therapy helping towards change
Using solution-focused therapy I work (online) with many couples who are struggling to either cope with change in the relationship or are averse to change. Making manageable changes can reduce tensions and the battles which follow, and reinvigorate stagnant relationships. This can have a domino effect on the wider relationships around that partnership. Change needs to be manageable so that it’s consistent. There’s no doubt that making changes requires effort, but if it opens up possibilities and opportunity and improves the quality of a relationship why not give it a go.
